North West Thames Orthopaedic Rotation

The North West Thames Orthopaedic rotation is one of the leading rotations for Trauma and Orthopaedics training in the UK. Anchored by institutions such as St Mary's Hospital, a renowned London Major Trauma Centre, the rotation offers unparalleled opportunities for hands-on experience and operative skill development. Comprising several bustling district general hospitals, the rotation is committed to delivering top-tier orthopaedic care to patients across North West London, ensuring the highest standards of treatment and rehabilitation.

One of the rotation's most notable attributes is its long-standing tradition of academic distinction. Trainees within the program have access to a rich academic environment, with many seizing the opportunity to further their education and research pursuits. The rotation has fostered a culture of academic excellence, with numerous trainees pursuing advanced degrees, including PhDs, at esteemed institutions such as Imperial College London and Oxford University. This commitment to scholarly pursuits not only enriches the training experience but also fosters a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the field of orthopaedics.

At the heart of the North West Thames Orthopaedic rotation is a unique emphasis on peer-led learning and support. Led by registrars for registrars, the program fosters a collaborative and supportive environment where trainees learn from each other's experiences and expertise. This approach is exemplified by initiatives such as the annual ST3 orthopaedic interview course, created to prepare trainees for the next stage of their careers. Additionally, the rotation proudly hosts a FRCS course spearheaded by Miss Li, a distinguished alumnus of North West Thames. This is in addition to our stellar annual teaching programme, which leans upon some of the consultants in the region who are leaders in the field.

In summary, the North West Thames Orthopaedic rotation provides an inclusive and supportive environment, which allows our excellent trainees to grow into the well-rounded consultant surgeons of tomorrow!
